The Relationship - Love and Respect

The Biblical Commands

Ephesians 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."

Ephesians 5:33 - "The wife must respect her husband."

This isn't just about marriage. It's the pattern for ALL heaven/earth relationships:

• Heaven's job: Love
• Earth's job: Respect

What Does "Heaven Must Love Earth" Mean?

When you're in the heaven position (authority, giving direction), you must love those under your care.

Love means:

1. Explain clearly and patiently

• Don't just command, explain WHY
• Help earth understand the vision
• Make the information accessible
• Be patient when they don't get it immediately

2. Respect earth's reality

• Earth has real limitations (time, energy, resources)
• Earth has real needs (rest, food, encouragement)
• Don't treat earth as just a tool to use
• Care about earth's wellbeing

3. Serve earth's good

• Your authority exists to help earth flourish
• Like Christ: "I came not to be served but to serve" (Mark 10:45)
• Your leadership should make their lives better, not just easier for you

4. Be gentle with mistakes

• Earth will make errors in execution
• Correct with patience, not harshness
• "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger" (Ephesians 6:4)
• Harsh heaven creates rebellious earth

What Happens When Heaven Doesn't Love Earth

Bad heaven (authority without love):

• Commands without explanation
• Harsh and impatient
• Doesn't care about earth's reality
• Treats people as tools, not humans
• "Just do what I say!"

Result: Earth withdraws cooperation

• "I'll do the minimum required"
• "I don't trust this leader"
• "I'm looking for another job"
• The power that earth holds gets withheld

Everything breaks down. Even though heaven has authority, nothing good gets built because earth won't lend its power.

What Does "Earth Must Respect Heaven" Mean?

When you're in the earth position (receiving direction, executing), you must respect those giving direction.

Respect means:

1. Listen to the information

• Don't dismiss authority just because you don't like it
• Receive the direction seriously
• Consider that heaven might see something you don't

2. Execute willingly

• Lend your power to the vision
• Don't withhold your strength
• Work as unto the Lord, not just when watched
• Give your best effort

3. Trust the direction

• Believe that heaven is trying to lead well
• Don't constantly undermine or sabotage
• Support the plan even when you don't fully understand it

4. Communicate honestly

• If you see problems, speak up respectfully
• Earth has important information heaven needs
• But don't just complain - offer solutions
• Help heaven lead better

What Happens When Earth Doesn't Respect Heaven

Bad earth (power without respect):

• Refuses to listen to direction
• Constantly undermines authority
• Does whatever it wants regardless of instruction
• Withholds power out of rebellion
• "You can't tell me what to do!"

Result: Chaos

• No coherent vision gets executed
• Everyone does their own thing
• Nothing good gets built
• The organization/family/society falls apart

Everything breaks down. Even though earth has power, nothing good gets created because earth won't cooperate with heaven's direction.

Authority vs Power - Why Both Must Work Together

Here's something important to notice: Heaven has authority, but earth has power.

Heaven (information) = Authority

• The right to decide direction
• The blueprint, the plan, the vision
• "This is what we should do"

Earth (material/body) = Power

• The ability to make it happen
• The strength, energy, resources to execute
• "This is what makes it real"

Neither works without the other.

Information IS Real Authority

Think about this: If you don't follow good information, you fail.

Example - Building a house:

• Heaven (architect's blueprint): "Foundation here, walls here, roof here"
• If Earth (workers) ignores the plan and does whatever they want
• Result: The house collapses

The information had authority - not because someone has a title, but because the information itself is correct and necessary. Following it leads to success; ignoring it leads to failure.

Your work example:

• Your boss (heaven) gives you the network configuration plan
• If you ignore it and configure things your own way
• Result: Hospital network fails, patients endangered

The information had authority - because it was correct and necessary for the objective to succeed.

The Body/Earth Has Real Power

But here's the other side: Heaven can't do anything without earth's cooperation.

The architect can draw the perfect blueprint, but if the construction workers refuse to work, nothing gets built.

Your boss can have the perfect network plan, but if you refuse to implement it, the plan stays on paper.

A husband can have great vision for the family, but if his wife doesn't respect and support it, nothing happens.

Earth holds the power - the actual energy, resources, and ability to make things real.

Heaven Must Respect Earth's Power

This is why the Bible commands:

• "Husbands, love your wives" (not just "wives, obey")
• "Fathers, do not provoke your children"
• Leaders must be gentle, patient, kind

Heaven must respect the power that earth holds.

If heaven doesn't love earth:

• Gives harsh orders without explanation
• Doesn't care about earth's reality or limits
• Treats earth as just a tool
• Is impatient and demanding

Then earth withdraws its power:

• "I'm not going to work hard for this person"
• "I'll do the minimum required"
• "I'm done supporting this vision"

The Strike Example

You see this constantly in society:

Politicians (heaven) make decisions without consulting or caring about the people.

The people (earth) go on strike:

• Truck drivers stop driving
• Factory workers stop producing
• Trains stop running
• Everything grinds to halt

Why? Because earth felt disrespected and withdrew its power.

Everyone suffers - because heaven and earth stopped cooperating.

The solution? Heaven must explain lovingly, listen to earth's reality, and earn earth's cooperation. Then earth freely gives its power to heaven's vision.

When Both Work Together

Good heaven + Good earth = Beautiful creation

The husband-wife example:

Husband (heaven) leads with love:

• "I think we should save for a house. Here's why I believe this is good for our family..."
• Explains clearly and patiently
• Listens to her input
• Respects her reality and concerns
• Makes her feel valued and heard

Wife (earth) responds with respect:

• "I trust your leadership, let's do this"
• Lends her power willingly
• Executes the family vision
• Supports his direction
• Uses her strength to make it happen

Result: The family flourishes. Children see love and order. The vision becomes reality. God is glorified. Pappa is happy.

The Workplace Example

Manager (heaven) leads with love:

• "Here's the project. Here's why it matters. Here's how your work contributes..."
• Explains the vision clearly
• Respects employees' time and limits
• Cares about their wellbeing
• Serves their growth

Employees (earth) respond with respect:

• "I understand. I'll give my best effort."
• Work diligently
• Execute the vision faithfully
• Contribute their skills willingly
• Make the project succeed

Result: The organization thrives. Good work gets done. People feel valued. Customers are served. God is honored.

The Parent-Child Example

Parent (heaven) leads with love:

• "We don't hit people. Here's why - because God made everyone valuable..."
• Explains patiently (even to a 4-year-old)
• Disciplines with gentleness
• Doesn't provoke to anger
• Serves the child's growth

Child (earth) responds with respect:

• "Okay, I understand"
• Obeys (even imperfectly)
• Trusts parent's direction
• Learns and grows

Result: The child flourishes. Character develops. Trust builds. The family honors God.

Christ Shows Us Both

Jesus as Earth (to the Father):

• Perfect respect: "Not my will, but yours"
• Perfect execution: He completed every task the Father gave
• Perfect trust: Even unto death
• This is how earth should respect heaven

Jesus as Heaven (to the Church):

• Perfect love: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life"
• Perfect patience: He explained constantly, used parables, taught gently
• Perfect service: He washed their feet
• This is how heaven should love earth

He's the pattern for both roles.

The Core Truth

Authority without love for power = Tyranny that fails

• Heaven commands but earth refuses
• Nothing good gets built
• Everyone suffers

Power without respect for authority = Chaos that destroys

• Earth does whatever it wants
• No coherent direction
• Nothing good gets built
• Everyone suffers

Authority loving power + Power respecting authority = Creation

• Heaven explains lovingly, earth executes willingly
• Beautiful things get made
• People flourish
• God is glorified
• Pappa is delighted

Your Daily Life

When you're in heaven position (boss, parent, leader):

• Ask: "Am I loving earth well?"
• Explain clearly and patiently
• Respect the power earth holds
• Serve those under your care

When you're in earth position (employee, child, follower):

• Ask: "Am I respecting heaven well?"
• Listen to the direction
• Execute willingly and faithfully
• Lend your power to the vision

Both positions matter. Both are honorable. Both glorify God when done well.
