Famous in animation history as the studio's first serious attempt at animating a realistic human figure — Persephone was a deliberate rehearsal for Snow White, and by the studio's own assessment she did not work. The figure drifts and rubberises where it should have weight. Walt kept the film in circulation anyway and used its failure to justify the life-drawing classes that transformed the studio. A genuinely important misfire.
Hades and the underworld sequence is drawn as genuine hellfire and frightens young children.
