A Silly Symphony that did more than almost any other film to fix the modern image of Santa's workshop — the assembly line of elves, the toy-testing, the list. It was popular enough to spawn a direct sequel, and the visual template it established has been repeated so often since that the short now looks like a summary of a tradition it actually helped invent.
One brief doll in the production line is a racial caricature of the kind common in 1932 cartoons.
