Quiet Please!

The family dog warns Tom not to make any noise so he can take a nap. Jerry hears this and immediately devises plans to ensure that the dog’s nap will be interrupted (breaking plates, playing musical instruments, etc.). One of the few cartoons in the Tom and Jerry series in which one of the main characters speaks.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoons). Spike will destroy Tom if he is woken, so Tom must absorb everything Jerry does in complete silence — a premise that turns the series' usual noise inside out and forces the animators to play the whole film on Tom's face. The suppressed-scream structure is one of the great ideas in short-form comedy, and it is a superb, entirely safe choice for a family.
