Nominated for the Academy Award. A full-blooded telling of the American tall tale, ending with the giant lumberjack losing to a steam-powered machine — a genuinely melancholy conclusion about the arrival of industry. The stylised, angular design is characteristic of Disney's late-1950s look, and the film has a scale and confidence the studio rarely gave its shorts by that point.
