Jerry decides he needs a vacation from the county and Tom so he leaves Tom a note and heads for New York City for some peace and quiet. However, Jerry has a number of unpleasant experiences in New York (being chased by cars and cats among other things) and it isn’t long before he changes his mind and heads back home to the country.

The finest thing in the series and almost entirely unlike the rest of it. Jerry leaves for New York alone; Tom appears only at the very beginning and end. What follows is a nearly wordless solo film about a small creature in an enormous city, with elaborate backgrounds, a genuine sense of scale and real loneliness underneath the gags. It is regularly cited as the most beautiful Tom and Jerry ever made, and it is the one to show anyone who thinks the series was only ever a cat hitting a mouse.
