Egyptian Melodies

A spider descends into the sphinx; we follow behind it in a fairly impressive tracking shot. It reaches the central chamber and the mummies come to life and dance, as do the soldiers and royalty drawn on the wall. This includes a spirited chariot race. All the activity ultimately scares the spider, and it runs out.

A Silly Symphony chiefly remembered for its opening: a spider descending a corridor into the Sphinx in a sustained perspective shot that was genuinely impressive for 1931 and much discussed at the time. The dancing mummies and hieroglyphs are charming, but the technical showing-off is the point.
