Donald in Mathmagic Land
Disney’s animated short explains through this wonderful adventure of Donald’s in how mathematics can be useful in real life. Through this journey Donald shows us how mathematics are not just numbers and charts, but magical living things.
Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short, and one of the most widely screened educational films ever made — it ran in American and European classrooms for well over thirty years. Donald wanders through a landscape built from the golden ratio, Pythagorean music and billiard geometry, and the film manages the rare trick of being genuinely about mathematics rather than merely mentioning it. If you show a child one thing from this archive that they will still be thinking about next week, make it this.
